Assistive Technologies

Read and Write is literacy software that makes documents and web content more accessible.  Read and Write is utilized with a simple tool bar that allows users to have files read aloud.  It also contains a number of study tools, dictionaries, and a speech to text feature.  Students with language-based learning disabilities can have this software installed on their personal laptops.  To view a web tutorial, please click here.

Livescribe pens are helpful for those who struggle with notetaking.  This device helps mitigate the challenge of listening to a lecture while simultaneously writing down the correct details.  Livescribe will record lectures as you write, and using their special paper, you can simply touch the pen to the place in your notes you want to revisit, and the lecture will play back from that point.  To view a web tutorial, please click here.

Dragon Naturally Speaking is dictation software that allows users to use their voice to write emails, search the web, and create word documents.  The software is designed to adapt to individual users and increases in accuracy over time.  For more information about Dragon Naturally Speaking, please click here.

Please feel free to reach out to Campus Accessibility Services if there is assistive technology you find helpful that we do not already provide.
