ALLWell

In the fall of 2010, Plymouth State University opened–almost literally–a new door to the world. At the eastern edge of campus across from the field house and playing fields, the first phase of the ALLWell Center, a brand-new welcome center and ice arena, greeted returning students and visitors coming into Plymouth. The center—with a soaring glass front, clear signage, ample parking—created, for the first time, an attractive, natural, and convenient entry point to campus. It represented vision in more ways than one. It marked the first phase of the four-part ALLWell Center, an ambitious academic, student life, athletic, and community engagement plan that promises to update and reinvent Plymouth State’s classroom space, athletic facilities, and playing fields, and, in so doing, the University’s public face.

The impact of ALLWell Phase I, the Ice Arena and Savage Welcome Center, since it opened may be hard to measure, but hard to overstate. Academic programs have benefited from the new facility, especially the Health and Human Performance Department, with its majors in everything from athletic training to health and physical education. Athletic training students and athletes now have access to an athletic training room in the arena where students can examine and treat on-ice injuries. The opportunities for student and faculty interactions and hands-on training are endless.
