Alumni Association Scholarship Endowment

The PSU Alumni Association endowment funds scholarships with criteria determined by the PSUAA scholarship committee and published annually. Click here for the online application which needs to be completed by the end of March. Qualified candidates are contacted for interviews and the PSUAA scholarship committee determines the recipient.

American Association of University Women Non-Traditional Student Scholarship Fund*

This endowment funds scholarships for outstanding non-traditional PSU undergraduate women. The scholarship award shall be made on the basis of academic merit and financial need. Click here for the online application which needs to be completed by the end of March. Qualified candidates are contacted for interviews and the PSUAA scholarship committee determines the recipient.

William S. Belvin Scholarship Endowment*

This endowment fund provides an annual scholarship for tuition and fees to one undergraduate student enrolled in a full time degree granting program, who has demonstrated the capacity to succeed at Plymouth State University, has maintained a GPA of 3.2 over at least three semesters, and has a need for financial assistance that is incremental to their own contributions toward the cost of their University education. Preference may be given to students who are the first in their family to seek a baccalaureate degree. Application

Mary Elizabeth Campbell ’91 Annual Scholarship*

The Mary Elizabeth Campbell ’91 Annual Scholarship is created for the benefit of undergraduate, transfer students, most in need of scholarship support. The award is available to an undergraduate student who has transferred to Plymouth State from another institution of higher education, is of any class year or major, who is in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 2.5, and is in need of additional financial support as determined by the Office of Financial Aid. The recipient should be a full time student, attending for a full year of study for which this award is given.  The recipient shall be selected by the PSU Office of Financial Aid based on documented financial need and stated criteria.

Class of 1937 Scholarship Fund*

This endowment funds scholarships, based on merit with consideration given to financial need, and is granted to worthy Plymouth State University students. Recipients are chosen by the PSU Office of Financial Aid, based on documented financial need. No application is required.

Charles L. and Frances F. Currier Memorial Scholarship

This endowment honors Charles L. and Frances F. Currier and, in their memories, supports scholarships. The scholarships are granted to qualified graduates of Plymouth Regional High School (NH) who are currently enrolled in a full-time capacity at Plymouth State University as a sophomore or above. Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of their academic record, citizenship and participation in extra-curricular activities. Recipients are chosen by a committee. Please apply here.

Robert J. Doherty Jr. ’86 Scholarship Fund*

The purpose of this scholarship fund is to honor Robert J. Doherty, Jr. ’86 and, in his memory, provide scholarships to outstanding Plymouth State students. The prospective recipient must initially meet two criteria: (1) be a sophomore successfully completing his/her freshman year, and (2) be a current resident of Rochester, NH. In the event that a qualified candidate is not available from Rochester, the selection committee may consider candidates first, from towns and communities adjacent to Rochester, and second from towns and communities in New Hampshire’s seacoast region. The scholarship award shall be made on the basis of three criteria: (1) academic merit, (2) demonstrated leadership ability, and (3) financial need. As long as the recipient maintains an acceptable cumulative grade point average, the scholarship will be renewed annually until the recipient has completed his/her undergraduate work.  Application

J. Philip and Eva M. Duguay Scholarship*

The purpose of this endowed fund is to provide a scholarship to a Plymouth State, need based undergraduate, with a preference, should two candidates be equally qualified, for first-generation students. Application

R. Stephen Eastman — Phi Mu Kappa / Tau Kappa Epsilon Leadership Scholarship

The purpose of this fund is to support an award for a student who has achieved a 2.8 or higher GPA, and is a leader on campus in student government, student organizations, or the classroom.  The annual recipient or recipients shall be selected by the Scholarship Committee of the PSU Alumni Association Board joined by a representative of the PMK/TKE alumni.  Applications are available in the Alumni office and need to be completed by the end of March.

Grappone Granite State Scholars Fund

The purpose of this endowed fund is to provide a scholarshipUniversity.  Awards will be made to any New Hampshire resident who graduates in the top 10 percent of his or her class from an accredited New Hampshire high school, and who receives a combined score of 1200 or more on the SAT I or the equivalent score on the ACT examination.  The Grappone Granite State Scholar designation shall be determined using class rank and standardized test scores taken no later than January 31 of the student’s senior year in high school. No application is required.

Richard T. and Patricia H. Hage Fund for Diversity and International Initiatives

The purpose of the Richard T. and Patricia H. Hage Fund for Diversity and International Initiatives is to provide vital support to students and the campus in the areas in which Dick and Pat have made such vital contributions themselves—diversity, internationalization, academic support services, educational access , and leadership.

The fund will support projects related to creating an environment in which students can learn leadership skills as related to their lives as citizens, as well as their careers. Such initiatives could reach across skills and awareness training re: diversity issues, focus on students served specifically through the PASS program, and / or provide opportunities for leadership development among student organizations, including the Dean of Students office, the PASS office, the Bagley Center, and others to be identified. The fund may also be used to support travel, student fees, and related expenses associated with international students attending PSU. Application

Jonathan ’79 and Cornelia Hall Annual Scholarship

The Jonathan ’79 and Cornelia Hall Annual Scholarship was established by Jon and Cornelia Hall in the Spring of 2013.  The purpose of this fund is to provide two $2,500 scholarships for dedicated PSU students.  The recipients must be returning, full-time students, who have financial need, and have a GPA of 2.75 or above.  The PSU Office of Financial Aid shall determine the recipients based on the stated criteria.  No application is required.

The Fund for Plymouth State Jean Reaney Hobson Memorial Scholarship*

The purpose of the Fund for Plymouth State Jean Reaney Hobson Memorial Scholarship is to support allocated financial aid dollars at PSU and be awarded in accordance with the Fund for Plymouth State Named Scholarship guidelines. No application is required.

Harold E. Hyde Endowed Scholarship

The purpose of this endowed fund is to provide a scholarship to a student who demonstrates a strong record of academic achievement. Criteria includes an exemplary record of leadership and service, and a commitment to activities whose purpose is to further the cause of international understanding. The endowment also has an interest in students majoring in education administration, though this is not a requirement for eligibility. Application

Imagine A Way Scholarship Endowment*

The purpose of the Imagine A Way Scholarship Endowment is to support scholarships for students who have financial need or who may be among the first generation in their family to attend college. Application

Cindy Kilzen Memorial Scholarship Fund

Cindy Kilzen, sister of PSU alumna Kathryn Kilzen Barnett, was the first student with a handicap to graduate from Fair Haven High School. Because Cindy suffered from spina bifida and other medical conditions, she was confined to a wheel chair for most of her life. Despite her illness, Cindy displayed remarkable courage. She strove to do her best and to make those around her comfortable with her circumstances. Cindy died at the age of 20. The purpose of this endowed fund is to present a scholarship to a full-time student entering their senior year who has displayed great courage in overcoming a disability or handicap in earning a degree. Laundry Equipment Corporation Annual Scholarship*

The purpose of the Laundry Equipment Corporation Annual Scholarship is to provide an annual award in the amount of $1,250 to support a scholarship for a PSU student.  The recipient must be a full-time student, who has documented financial need, and is a first generation student.  The PSU Office of Financial Aid shall determine the recipient based on the stated criteria. No application is required.

The Reverend Sidney Lovett Scholarship*

The purpose of the Lovett Scholarship is to honor Reverend Lovett’s work and contributions to Plymouth State University and to provide recognition and scholarship support for deserving and low-income students from the local area to attend Plymouth State University and for additional educational expenses.

The scholarship recipients shall be residents of the local community of Plymouth and the Lakes Region (Grafton, Carroll, or Belknap counties.) Recipients must be attending full-time, for a full year of study, and have documented financial need with the PSU Office of Financial Aid. Scholarship funds will be awarded to recipients in addition to other forms of financial assistance, but will not supplant other fund sources. The recipients are determined by the Office of Financial Aid; no applications are accepted.

Morgridge Family Internship Scholarship Fund

Internship programs at Plymouth State University are an opportunity for students to work intensively, mentored by an internship advisor to craft an off-campus learning experience that not only brings their degree program into focus but gives them a road map for their remaining semester/s at the University and their transition to the world of work after graduation. Internships prepare the student for the reality of the career environment in their chosen field and often lead to paid employment. There are basic costs to an internship that are prohibitive for students of modest financial means. The purpose of the Morgridge Family Internship Scholarship Fund is to grant stipends or honorariums to qualified Plymouth State University students to ease the financial burden to the students by supporting the basic costs of an internship.  Email Jess Morell for more information.

Morgridge Family Opportunity Scholarship*

The purpose of the Morgridge Family Opportunity Scholarship Endowment is to provide renewable scholarships for incoming freshman who are academically promising and who are Pell-eligible to reduce the amount borrowed for educational purposes. Preference will be given to students from Belknap, Coos, Grafton, Strafford, Sullivan and Carroll counties of New Hampshire and those who are first generation in their families to attend university. Students will be chosen by the MFOS scholarship committee. Online application

New Hampshire Transfer Student Fund

This endowment provides funds for New Hampshire residents transferring to Plymouth State University. Criteria includes application for or accepted current full-time student status and minimum 3.0 GPA. The PSU Office of Financial Aid will determine the award recipient. No application is required.

Northwestern Mutual Manchester, NH Network Offices Internship Scholarship*

The purpose of the Northwestern Mutual Manchester, NH Network Offices Scholarship is to provide one $1,000 scholarship for an undergraduate College of Business Administration student.  The recipient shall be a returning, full-time student, who has documented financial need, is a business administration major, and has a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above.  The recipient should be a U.S. citizen and be participating as an intern at the Northwestern Mutual Manchester, NH Network offices.  The award will not post to the students account until the internship program is completed.

Operating Staff Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is provided by the Operating Staff of the university to a student who is a returning PSU student, who is a New Hampshire resident, and who is in good academic standing. Recipient nominations are solicited from PSU faculty and staff. Recipients are selected by the Operating Staff fundraising/scholarship committee. The application deadline is March 31. Plymouth State University P.A.T. Scholarship

These scholarships are provided by the Professional-Administrative-Technical staff of the University to students entering their junior or senior year, who are in good academic standing, and who are actively involved in both university and community activities. Recipient nominations are solicited from each principal administrator, each PAT staff member, and each academic department chair. Students may also apply and request a nomination form from an appropriate PAT member. Recipients are selected by the PAT scholarship committee. PAT Application

Forrest Martin and Opal Marie Steen Scholarship*

The purpose of the Forrest Martin and Opal Marie Steen Scholarship is to provide a scholarship to a need-based undergraduate Plymouth State student, with a preference, should two candidates be equally qualified, for first-generation students. The award may be renewed for up to four years total if overall GPA is 3.0 or above. Application

Patricia Stips Scholarship Endowment

The purpose of the Patricia Stips Scholarship Endowment is to support scholarships for students of Plymouth State University who have completed at least one semester. Recipients should be full time students, attending for a full year of study for which this award is given. Recipients shall be selected by the PSU Office of Financial Aid. No application is required.

Supporting our Students (SOS) Faculty Scholarship Fund*

The S-O-S Faculty Scholarship Fund was created by the faculty of Plymouth State University including all professors (full- or part- time, tenure track or adjunct status) who have the honor of instructing students, as an expression of support for those students and in gratitude for the unique academic community that is Plymouth State.  The purpose of the fund is to provide financial assistance to the most needy among students.

The S-O-S Faculty Scholarships are available to undergraduate students of any class year or major who are in good academic standing and in need of additional financial support, as determined by the Office of Financial Aid. Students receiving awards should be full time students, attending for a full year of study for which this award is given.  Recipients shall be selected by the financial aid scholarship selection committee, based on documented financial need. No application is required.

John K. Walsh Scholarship Fund

The John K. Walsh Scholarship was established in June 2001 by Professor Billy Bussell Thompson in memory of his partner and colleague John “Jack” K. Walsh.  A remarkable educator, Dr. Walsh knew the value of scholarships for college students. He was born and raised in New York City and received his undergraduate degree in Spanish from Notre Dame, a Masters from Columbia University and his PhD from the University of Virginia. He taught at the University of Virginia and retired from the University of California at Berkley after an illustrious career. A proud and openly-gay man, Jack Walsh supported the struggle for equality under the law and for recognition of the rights and responsibilities for all citizens. Dr. Walsh knew and loved New Hampshire and the PSU campus. This scholarship benefits a student who has shown leadership in his/her school community with regard to the rights and activities of gay or lesbian individuals. The scholarship award will be determined by a committee of the University based on the established criteria. Application

Ann L. Wharton Scholarship Fund

The Ann L. Wharton Scholarship is awarded to a student who is completing his or her junior year and will be returning to PSU for his/her senior year of study. The scholarship should be used to offset tuition costs incurred during the senior year. A full year of study remaining is preferred in order to be considered for this award. The award should support a student who has demonstrated superior academic performance after overcoming a substantive obstacle or personal challenge. Such obstacles or challenges include, but are not limited to initial academic disappointment or failure; a physical challenge; or financial or economic obstacles. In each case, recipients should have demonstrated in their lives and University careers those qualities exemplified by Ann L. Wharton: courage, hard work, persistence, and generosity to others. Barbara M. Willey Endowment for International Study Scholarship

Barbara M. Willey, world traveler and elementary educator, made provisions for Plymouth State University in her will. Her bequest was used to establish the Barbara M. Willey Endowment to provide support for Plymouth State undergraduate students pursuing study abroad in relation to their degree. Interested students may apply through the Associate Vice President of Undergraduate Studies located on the 2nd floor of the Speare building.

* Students who would like to be considered for scholarships that identify financial need as a criteria will need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before PSU’s March 1 priority deadline. Academic and Non-Academic Departments offering scholarships collaborate with the Financial Aid Office, therefore, it is imperative that students comply with PSU policy.
