Meet Our Coaching Staff

In addition to Learn to Ice Skate group lessons, Plymouth State Skating Academy coaches offer private lessons.   Please feel free to contact any individual coach to set up private lessons or email psu-icearena@plymouth.edu for more information.

  • Private lessons range from $40-$60+ per hour depending on the instructor. You should inquire about availability and rates directly with the coach you’d like your skater to work with.
  • Private lessons are usually taught on public ice sessions.  You are responsible to pay the $6 public skating ice fees to the rental counter and you pay your coach directly.

Barbara Adams Email Barbara Barbara trained under master rated coach, Leona Cooke, as part of the Wilmington FSC in MA. Barbara completed the USFS 5th Figure test, Novice Freeskate, and Silver Dance tests.  She enjoys working with all ages of recreational skaters as well as preparing more focused skaters for advancing through US Figure Skating testing program. Barbara and a small group of volunteers established the Magic Blades FSC in 1997 and continues to volunteer as the skating director, coach, board member, and test chair.

maggieMaggie Devoy   Email Maggie Maggie began coaching first as a volunteer coach for Magic Blades FSC in 2017, and then as a staff coach since 2019.  Maggie has also been coaching for PSSA since 2019.  Maggie recently completed her USFS Senior Level, and is now a US Figure Skating Gold Medalist for Moves in the Field. Maggie continues to work on her advanced USFS freeskate levels and recently  passed her Intermediate Freeskate test. Maggie travels to the Boston area to continue her own training. Maggie is available for skaters of any age working on the basic skills program or wanting to begin working on the US Figure Skating advanced testing program.

sarah-parrish Sarah Parrish   Sarah Parrish has 19 years of synchronized skating experience and has earned 11 national gold medals in the Novice, Senior, and Adult divisions. As a member of The Haydenettes, she represented the United States at the World Synchronized Skating Championships. She enjoys helping students of all ages build confidence and express themselves through skating, and is available for individual lessons focusing on choreography, competition training, and test preparation through Juvenile Freestyle and Senior Moves in the Field. Off the ice, she teaches Art History at Plymouth State University. (Not currently taking new students.)

Abby Rainville   Email Abby Abby lives in Gilford NH and is a new addition to the PSSA coaching staff.  Abby, and her sister Emma, trained at the North Shore Skating Club in Massachusetts.  Abby has completed the USFS Intermediate Freeskate test and Junior Moves in the Field test.

Caitlin Sholtis  Email Caitlin  Caitlin is a Plymouth State grad student in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program will be available Spring and Fall of 2023. Caitlin trained with the Sun Valley Skating Club as a youth and skated at the University of Montana as an undergrad. Caitlin has completed her USFS Novice Moves in the Field and Intermediate Freeskate.
Jennifer Tondreau  Email Jen Jen Tondreau has been coaching figure skating for more than 20 years. She has passed her USFS Junior Freeskate & 7th figure test while attending National Sports Academy in Lake Placid , NY and graduated as class valedictorian. After competing regionally up to the Junior freestyle level, Jen attended New England College working towards her Bachelors degree  in Elementary Education. Her love of children and her educational background, along with her passion for skating makes her lessons fun & educational. Jen is currently coaching private and group skating lessons at the Laconia Ice Arena, Tri-Town Ice Arena, Tilton School, and PSU Ice Arena.

Whatleigh Torsey   Email Whatleigh Whatleigh is an adult skater who started on ice as a hockey player but as an adult has added figure skating to her training.  Whatleigh recently passed the USFS Adult Bronze Moves in the Field test and the three USFS Preliminary Ice Dance tests. Whatleigh is available to teach private lessons to young skaters working on their basic skills. Outside of the ice arena Whatleigh manages two teams of husky dogs and enjoys recreational and occasionally competitive mushing.

Bethann Weick   Email Bethann (Not currently taking new students.) Bethann holds her Gold level in Freestyle and Moves in the Field tests, as well as Pre-Gold Dance tests. She began working as a coach and choreographer in the early 2000s, while living and training in PA. After a decade-plus off the ice studying, working, and traveling, Beth now lives in Dorchester, NH and coaches at the Plymouth and Waterville Valley ice rinks, as well as Riverwalk in Lincoln. Beth works with beginners to elite-level skaters of all ages – tots, kids, teens, and adults. She is a PSA certified and fully-insured coach through the USFSA, and available for private lessons year-round. When not at the rink, Beth is a self-employed gardener/landscaper, as well as holding periodic stints as a Spanish teacher/tutor. She is perpetually working on her off-grid homestead with partner Ryan, which provides endless projects, beauty, and joy.(Not currently taking new students.)
