BS in Art Education
Art and visual culture engage viewers and makers in acts of creating, viewing, and responding to art in our lives. The quest for personal and social meaning is central to the study of art and education. Guided by the principles of constructivist pedagogy and best practices in education, we model inquiry based instruction, authentic assessment, and interdisciplinary integration. We provide our students with a dynamic conceptual base and repertoire of applied skills essential for the study of art and art education. We help our students cultivate their creativity, critical thinking, skillful communication, real-world connections, and social agency through discussion, collaborative learning, art-making, research, community service, and internships. These experiences will provide our students with a foundation for their personal investigation of life, culture, and teaching.

A portfolio is required for admission and transfer into the program. Portfolio guidelines are available on Admissions page or by contacting Department Chair Jason Swift.
