The Boyd Science Center’s climate-controlled research chambers; aquaria; physiology, molecular, and microbiology labs; greenhouse and herbarium; and advanced equipment are complemented by the University’s proximity to the lakes, rivers, and mountains of New Hampshire, which gives students access to an unparalleled natural laboratory.

Unlike at most colleges and universities, where students may not conduct meaningful scientific research until the graduate level, Plymouth State undergraduates can have the advantage of becoming involved in hands-on research that can jumpstart their academic and professional careers. The high level of student participation in the University’s Undergraduate Research course is a particular strongpoint for PSU due to professors’ willingness to work with students.

Graduates of PSU’s nationally recognized meteorology program can be found among National Weather Service forecasters and TV meteorologists, and in many government and private industry careers. The highly regarded program benefits from advanced instrumentation, sophisticated observational equipment, and a professional quality broadcast studio, and the University’s Judd Gregg Meteorology Institute serves and educates the New England region through applied atmospheric science.

The University’s interdisciplinary learning model comes to the fore in new cutting-edge programs such as climate studies and forensic science. The bachelor’s in climate studies is the first in the Granite State and one of the very few nationwide, and forensic science is the first bachelor’s program of its kind from a public university in New Hampshire.
