Plymouth State University Offer Biometric Screenings to Community

Plymouth State students will be conducting free health screenings for community members

Nursing and Exercise Science students and staff at PSU will be offering a series of opportunities for campus and community members to receive biometric health risk screenings at no charge in the months of April-May 2018. Nursing students will conduct measurements typically conducted in medical settings as part of annual health assessments. Measures of heart rate, blood pressure, cholesterol, height, weight, and blood sugar levels will all be provided. These tests can detect early signs of health problems such as hypertension and/or diabetes. The student nurses have been trained in all procedures and will be supervised by PSU Nursing faculty members. Health promotion students will be on hand to offer coaching on exercise and other healthy living habits.

Testing will begin on Monday, April 30th. There will be a morning session from 8:30am-11:30am at AutoServ in Tilton, NH and an afternoon session from 1:30 pm-4:30 pm at Meredith Recreation Center. Additional testing sessions at Plymouth State University will be held in the Hartman Union Building room 109 on Friday, May 11th from 8:30-11:30 and 1:30pm-4:30pm.

This program is a Health and Human Enrichment Cluster Project in collaboration with the Center for Healthy Communities at PSU. It is an opportunity for students to practice and polish interpersonal and health care skills in a community setting; an important aspect in ensuring well-trained graduates. Participation by campus and local community members is greatly appreciated.
