Department Society

The Computer Science and Technology department is a very social department.  We spend a lot of time working in teams on projects, playing games over lunch with professors, and asking questions during open tutoring hours.  These connections not only keep the department lively, but also build a network that can provide career opportunities.

Here are some ways we foster this tight-knit community:

  • Attend the evening tutoring hours to get a head start (or catch up) on your class projects.
  • Create a LinkedIn account, then join the department group.  This is one place we post job and internship ads.  (Come introduce yourself to Kyle Burke in Memorial 204 so I know you’re in the department, then I can invite you into the group.)
  • Game Lunch: Every Monday, from 11:15 to 1:10, students and faculty gather in Memorial 304 to play board games over lunch. We tend to play a bunch of short games, so please join us for any part of that span.
  • Department Facebook Group: A place for alumni, students, faculty, and a few department friends to post jokes, announcements, and even new job listings.
  • At the end of each semester, attend the Senior Project presentations.  It’s great to see the kinds of projects you can work on during your senior year.  These usually happen in the late afternoon on the last day of classes, with a casual banquet afterwards for everyone who attends.  Your professors will announce this near the end of the semester.
