Students who complete degree programs in the Plymouth State University Department of Environmental Science and Policy will be able to:
- Discuss benefits of working as part of a science and/or social science research team
- Develop an appreciation of diverse perspectives on the environment and develop a more open and critical mind on issues
- Identify and compare different science and social science research methods
- Apply interdisciplinary approaches in efforts to understand and address environmental issues
- Translate science for lay audiences
- Explain how GIS is applied in environmental science fields and the benefits it brings
- List key environmental science policy and regulations
- Appreciate the value and need for communicating results of science and social science research
- State the need for math skills in conducting science and social science research
- Recognize the role of local, state, and federal natural resource NGOs and agencies
- Describe how natural resource oriented science and social science research is funded
- Explain how environmental policy is established and how it is related to environmental science
- Integrate natural science and social science concepts, theories, and methods for understanding environmental issues in interdisciplinary teams working on service learning projects with off-campus partners including communities in the capstone experience
