2004 Mail to the Chief Director’s Note

Mail to the Chief was compiled from over 2,000 pieces of writing submitted by children across America. The script is a compilation of many different views and opinions, offering a glimpse into the thoughts and feelings of our American children, as we stand on the eve of the 2004 presidential election. It was fascinating to read the countless pieces of gifted writing we received with my two friends and colleagues, Alma Grand and Marilyn O’Connell. Together, we mined the “gems” that I later pieced together to make the script. As you’ll see from the production, we found many sparkling jewels together.

I also would like to thank and acknowledge the many kind and supportive people who help to make the Educational Theatre Collaborative (ETC) a reality. It would be difficult to mount ETC without the incredible support of our friends in the Silver Cultural Arts Center and the Music, Theatre and Dance Department, as well as the many folks in the Speare Administration Building and at Hogan House who spend countless hours each year working with us to make sure ETC runs smoothly. I would like to publicly acknowledge the tremendous energy these individuals have given to ETC over the years. To our partner organizations, Plymouth State University, Plymouth Elementary School, and Friends of the Arts, we also send our heartfelt thanks and gratitude.

ETC exists because of the combined gifts and talents of many throughout the Plymouth region and beyond. As we celebrate ten years together, please know how much you are valued and appreciated for your belief in the dream that is ETC. Together we can truly reach for the stars!
