Nationally, as of January 2, 2017, there were 1,757 smoke-free campuses, of which 1,468 — around two-thirds — were fully tobacco-free! In addition, a rapidly growing number (823) now also prohibit the use of e-cigarettes, or vaping, anywhere on campus.
The University System of New Hampshire (USNH) and Community College System of New Hampshire (CCSNH), Tobacco Free Steering began its efforts in the Fall of 2014, after securing a grant from the State of New Hampshire Tobacco Prevention and Control Program (TPCP) to assist USNH administration and the individual campuses to develop and implement Smoke- and Tobacco-Free plans to impact cultural campus change to respect the environment and support healthy behaviors while augmenting cessation efforts with the goal of creating tobacco-free environments on all affiliated campuses. This public education system of two and four year institutions represents 23 college campuses in 15 New Hampshire cities and towns, over 40,000 students and nearly 10,000 faculty and staff.
