On the Cutting Edge

In today’s increasingly complex and global culture, the Plymouth State's humanities programs are uniquely positioned to help you translate your creative talents into a successful career and a fulfilling future. At the core of what we do is an emphasis on the intersection between the creative and the critical.

Plymouth State University’s humanities programs focus on relevant study and examination of the human environment, and in doing so provide students with the tools and abilities needed to interpret the past and gain insight into current conditions of modern life.

The Bachelor of Arts degree in English emphasizes harnessing and shaping students’ creative talents, providing many pathways to fulfilling futures. PSU English graduates are well prepared to excel in careers that demand ingenuity, rigorous analytical skills, and the superpower that comes with being able to think outside of the box.

Plymouth State’s wide-ranging array of humanities minors include practical language competencies in modern languages; focused studies in linguistics, literature, and writing; and concentrated explorations of timeless human concerns, including ethics, philosophy, and peace and social justice topics. Minors can be combined with students’ major studies to enhance their primary areas of scholarly focus and can also add additional diverse areas of inquiry that are of particular interest.
