Dear PSU Students,
In the last two months, the University Police have taken four reports from students who have shared intimate photos of themselves with people they have met online. In these cases, the students were then extorted for money by the person they were communicating with who turned out to be fictitious. These cases are very difficult to track, as many of the perpetrators are not in the U.S. and are very skilled at shielding their identities. The University Police reminds all students not to share personal information online with non-verified sites. This is especially important when using social media.
