Ann McClellan, PhD, was named interim provost and vice president of academic affairs in June 2020 after serving as associate provost since June 2019. She previously served as professor of 20th century British literature at Plymouth State University for 14 years.  

Prior to joining the Office of Academic Affairs, McClellan held several leadership roles on campus including chairing the Arts & Technologies Cluster, English Department, Women’s Studies Program, and the Transition Leadership Team.   

Interim Provost McClellan is an internationally known scholar in 20th Century British Literature and Culture, Sherlock Holmes, and Fan Studies. She is the author of Sherlock’s World: Fanfiction and the Reimagining of BBC’s Sherlock (2018), How British Women Writers Transformed the Campus Novel (2012), and numerous articles on cultural topics ranging from servants on screen to social media, fan fiction, and Sherlock Holmes. 

McClellan earned her graduate certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies, MA, and PhD in English from the University of Cincinnati, after which she served as faculty at Eureka College and Plymouth State University. PSU has honored McClellan several times over the years for her outstanding contributions to scholarship and her community, including the Theo Kalikow Award (2010), Distinguished Academic Advising (2015), Distinguished Scholarship (2016), and Excellence in Faculty Service (2016). Beyond PSU, McClellan has won research grants from the Sisters in Crime (2019) and the Marion and Jasper Whiting Foundation (2006) as well as an Advanced Digital Humanities Institute Fellowship (2018) and a Summer Visiting Faculty Fellowship at Richmond, the American International University in London (2016).
