To encourage discussions in my political ideology class I sometimes write a haiku or poem on the board. Often the reactions tend to be discursive and tangential. One day I wrote this haiku from the samurai poet, Mizuta Mashide:
Since my house burned down
I now own a better view
Of the rising moon.
An unassuming and usually very quiet student yelled out, “I see it! When we get lemons, we can make lemonade!”
