Endowed Gifts

Endowments are critical to the mission of Plymouth State. Through endowed chairs, professorships, and scholarships you are able to make a permanent gift that benefits a program of your choice.

Named scholarships and fellowships, professorships, and chairs serve as a permanent resource that can be used to meet strategic goals in concert with the University’s educational mission, based on academic excellence, learner-centered teaching, experiential learning, applied research, regional service, and leadership.

Named Scholarship Endowment: $25,000 to $150,000

An endowed scholarship provides an annual grant of $1,000 to $6,000 to a deserving student every year, in perpetuity. Larger endowed scholarships provide greater support for a student or may support multiple students. Donors may specify selection preferences for scholarship winners, such as undergraduate or graduate students and major fields of study.

Named Professorship Endowment: $50,000 to $250,000

An endowed professorship provides an annual grant of $2,000 to $10,000 every year to a member of the faculty, enabling him or her to pursue research and other professional endeavors. The faculty member is named to the professorship for a period of three years. Professorship recipients are selected by the president and the provost of the University based on exceptional achievement and promise.

Named Chair Endowment: $2,500,000 to $5,000,000

An endowed chair supports the research and compensation of an exemplary member of the faculty for the duration of his or her career as a full-time professor at Plymouth State University. Awarding a named chair to a professor is among the highest honors a university can bestow. In addition to the recognition of the professor’s achievements and potential, the endowed chair provides the holder with funds for research and other professional activities.

Endowments can be funded through a variety or combination of sources, including: cash, securities, real estate, through gifts by will or testamentary provision, life insurance, charitable trust, and gift annuities. Gifts may be given or pledged over a number of years. Additional gifts to endowments may be made at any time.
